There are certainly a few raised eyebrows here in the Football Transfer Tavern as we consider the latest claims from The Telegraph who think that Arsene Wenger may well be about to move for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.
The forward has been linked with a host of clubs already this summer and now it seems that Arsenal – one of the clubs he was in fact rumoured to be of interest to – are considering making a sensational swoop for the 27-year-old.
Rooney’s future has been uncertain for some time now and it has kept both the media and fans alike entertained. Now it seems that Wenger could well focus a huge amount of his energy and indeed rumoured £70 million transfer kitty on bringing the player to the Emriates Stadiun after claiming to Al Jazeera: “Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?
“David Moyes’ first challenge is to go in to Manchester and bridge the gap between him and Rooney. If that is feasible or not depends on his personality and if Rooney bears a grudge or not, we will see.
“It will be interesting to see how that will be handled.”
The club are also rumoured to be chasing Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic in the striking category.
Is this nothing more than a passing comment? Would Arsenal pay Rooney massive wages? Let us know your thoughts below.
