In dramatic news here at the Football Transfer Tavern we have been mulling over the claims in talkSPORT that one of Arsenal’s summer transfer targets is set to turn them down flat.
The club are of course on the much publicised and talked about hunt for new players and are only too aware of the progress Tottenham have made in terms of their boosting their squad and potential to get into the top four. Add to this the fact that Gunners fans have finally lost patience with the total lack of trophies and Wenger himself, the French tactician knows he has some serious business to do.
The club had been thought to want Juventus forward Alessandro Matri who has only made seven starts this term (although scoring recently against Celtic in the Champions League) and is something of a peripheral figure for the Serie A giants. Add to this the impedning arrival of Fernando Llorente to the Juventus Arena in the summer and a move may well have been on the table.
The player himself however has noted that: “When I’ve been called into action I’ve been ready and the side hasn’t missed who I have replaced. If I am made to feel like an important player then I would prefer to stay at Juventus, rather than join another club who could perhaps offer me more playing time.”
Would Matri have proved a good enough signing? Will Wenger return for the Italian? Rate this rumour below.
