Arsenal fans would be forgiven if they were still jubilant with their side’s performance on Thursday night as they managed to put one foot in the semi-finals of the Europa League. The Gunners will know Napoli are excellent at home, however, a two-goal advantage could be enough for Unai Emery’s side to progress to the last four.
However, their success in European competition this season should not distract them from the fact that they need to make changes in the summer and bring in some new faces to freshen things up. And, it appears the club could have found a player who could provide Emery’s side with exactly what they need going forward.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Telegraph, Arsenal have already held talks with Ajax about the possibility of signing David Neres this summer.
It is claimed that the 22-year-old is expected to cost at least €40million (£34.5m) this summer and will depart from the Eredivisie outfit should that figure be met.
However, Arsenal are to have some strong competition for the Brazilian winger, with Everton having also held talks, whilst the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have all kept tabs on him recently.
Neres has been truly remarkable for Ajax this season in the Eredivisie and the Champions League, where he netted once again on Tuesday night with a fine effort against Juventus in their quarter-final first leg showdown.
The Brazilian now has 12 goals and eight assists to his name this season, which is something that Emery’s side could really benefit from if he were to join, as he could provide some creativity from a wide position that has been lacking at Arsenal.
He would bring plenty of pace and skill on the flanks and could be an immediate upgrade on the likes of Alex Iwobi, who attracts criticism on a regular basis when utilised on the wing.
The Gunners still have plenty of gaps that need filling, however, Neres would at least be able to suitable fill one of them with the quality he has on the ball, whilst the imminent departure of Aaron Ramsey and his goals may be significantly reduced if the impressive Brazilian were to arrive at the Emirates Stadium.
However, there is a concern about whether Arsenal would be able to be in a position to strike a deal with Ajax for the talented attacker, as doubts surround how much money is in the transfer kitty for Emery to use on new acquisitions this summer.
Arsenal fans, should the club do everything they can to bring Neres to the Emirates Stadium? Do you think the Gunners will be in a position to do so if they try? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
