Arsenal fans are more excited than most in the Football Transfer Tavern given the fact the club appear to have finally worked out that transfer windows are the time to spend money on new exciting players.
Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina have already made the switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer and the Evening Standard reckons Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho will be the next to arrive.
Arsene Wenger has identified the talented Portuguese international midfielder as a far cheaper alternative to Sami Khedira, with the German international demanding a staggering £150,000-a-week in wages.
Carvalho looks set to cost in the region of £23.9 million despite the midfielder having a £37 million release clause but Sporting are willing to do business for the smaller fee if the cash is paid up front.
The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in Portugal and has been linked with a number of top clubs this summer including both Manchester United and Manchester City.
Real Madrid meanwhile remain keen to offload Gunners target Sami Khedira who has just one year remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu.
The European champions are set to meet with the 27-year-old tomorrow to discuss his future.
