This is the news that the Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were all hoping for…
Whilst Arsenal have not been known in the Tavern for their shrewd business in recent years, Arsene Wenger has gained the plaudits of the majority for his capture of La Liga stars Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
Without doubt in the upper tier of European-based footballers, the pair were long touted with a move to the Premier League by the faithful in the Tavern – and it was Arsene Wenger that sealed the deals for the sought after duo.
Their arrival in the Premier League generated the expected results; the pair have been at the heart of everything that Arsenal have done in recent years, and their performances have seen their respective values skyrocket.
However, their performances have come with a downside for the Arsenal faithful in the Tavern – in that their future has appeared uncertain.
Their performances have attracted interest from across Europe, with Alexis Sanchez in particular, receiving attention from some of Europe’s finest.
A few of the Arsenal fans lined up alongside the bar have been fearing the worst over the future of their star men, with both yet to sign new deals with the London club.
However, Wenger has this weekend served to allay the fears of the Gunners faithful; and has confirmed that the club are looking to seal the pair down to long-term deals.
As reported in the Express, Arsene Wenger was quoted as saying: “Ozil and Sanchez, we will start to talk for their extensions” – confirming that he wants to ensure the players remain at the Emirates on a long-term basis.
This will come as a relief to the Gunners faithful in the Tavern, with several of them preparing to down their pints at even the slightest hint of the departure of this deadly duo.
The pair will no doubt be crucial this season, as Arsene Wenger bids for a Premier League title win in what could be his final year in charge of the Gunners.
