Arsenal supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking forward to Friday’s transfer deadline day.
They are thinking back to the summer when they landed Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil on deadline day and hope that Arsene Wenger can pull off another surprise signing to further improve his squad.
Mail Online report that Arsenal are considering a move for Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff as a possible alternative to Julian Draxler.
The Gunners have been chasing the Schalke midfielder, but any agreement seems unlikely with the German club wanting Arsenal to trigger his £40 million release clause – something that Wenger is not prepared to do.
This has instead seen the long-serving French boss looking for possible alternatives and the paper suggests that he has now outlined a move for Gourcuff.
However it is thought that any deal may have to wait until the summer after his agent, Didier Poulmaire, confirmed that two offers had already been turned down by Lyon.
“Yoann has had two offers in this winter transfer window, but has decided to stay,” Poulmaire said.
“For the future we’ll look to the sporting project first of all, that’s an essential thing for Yoann.”
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has long been linked with the Emirates Stadium and he is likely to be available for under £10 million with the French outfit suffering severe financial problems in recent years.
