There are a few raised eyebrows in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon as the latest transfer speculation surrounding Arsenal is revealed.
Metro have suggested that West Bromwich Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu is a surprise transfer target for Arsenal as the Premier League leaders look to strengthen during January.
The 26-year-old, who moved to The Hawthorns from Paris Saint-Germain in 2009 for only £150,000, has been impressive at the heart of Steve Clarke’s midfield.
Now the Congo international has admitted that his future could lie away from the West Midlands club after he confirmed interest from the Emirates Stadium.
“I have had approaches from Arsenal,” he said.
“I could leave this winter. This is the right time for me to set my sights higher. I’m ready to join a top-four club.
“We are not professional enough in the way we manage our games – for example our draw at Chelsea. We are not mature enough.”
The midfielder enforcer’s comments are not likely to go down well at The Hawthorns, but it suggests that his impressive performances have caught Arsenal’s attentions ahead of the January transfer window.
