Arsenal in pole position to beat rivals to wonderkid teenagers on the cheap

Arsenal fans here in The Transfer Tavern will have the TV on all summer waiting for the latest transfer news to pop up on their favourite sports news station as they continue to dream of having a team that can become serious title contenders in the English Premier League.

Arsene Wenger has committed to another two years at the club which, as divisive as that decision has been, allows the club to at least identify targets early and potentially beat rivals to talent they would otherwise miss out on.

The Sunderland Echo have reported that two teenagers they have won the race for are Joel Asoro and Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka of Sunderland, beating the likes of Liverpool and Everton to their signatures.

The duo, just 18 and 17 respectively, are said to be two of the Black Cats’ most promising talents but after dropping to the English Championship, they’re struggling to hold onto their best players at all levels.

The report suggests that the Gunners are willing to pay upto £5m for the duo with Sunderland prepared to accept.

In 2015, Asoro became Sunderland’s youngest ever Premier League player while winger Mbunga-Kimpioka has yet to make a first team appearance.

It seems Wenger is on the hunt for the next generation he feels can shine at the club in years to come.

Arsenal fans – what do you make of this double swoop? Are you excited to see young talent come to the club or are you hoping Wenger focuses more on first team acquisitions?
