Arsenal fans must be wondering how their side can turn in the type of performance they did against Manchester United last weekend following the abysmal showing against Rennes in the Europa League.
There is no doubt that Unai Emery has started to turn things around, although he will need help in a couple of transfer windows to completely turn the north London outfit into a side that is capable of winning things, however, he could be in a great position to start changing things in the summer.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Marca, Arsenal are understood to be ‘best positioned’ to sign Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico.
The Spanish media outlet are claiming that although the Premier League side will have competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, a move to the Emirates Stadium appears to be something that is more likely to happen.
And, Arsenal could certainly do with a move for the Ajax left-back this summer as adding strength to their defence is quite clearly an area for concern with those at the club.
The Argentina international would fit straight into the side and would surely go on to replace Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac, as he would be able to bring more to the team than the duo can.
The 26-year-old, who has shone with Ajax this season, has been extremely effective going forward as he has five goals and five assists to his name, whilst he has shown his defensive capabilities as well with recent performances in the Champions League against some of the best attackers.
Tagliafico also has bundles of aggression and athleticism to offer Arsenal as well, which could help him to thrive in the Premier League and help to make a possible transition to English football a little easier for him than other players have found in the past.
As mentioned, Monreal and Kolasinac have struggled in recent seasons, which has seen Emery’s side appear to be rather vulnerable on their left-hand side. Monreal is starting to enter the latter stages of his career, whilst the Bosnian has not really shown too much to be impressed about during his short career at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal fans, what do you make of the links surrounding Tagliafico? Do you think he will improve the defence immediately? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
