Arsenal are back in the news here in the Football Transfer Tavern as London 24 claim that the club are considering a bid for Lyon’s Clement Grenier.
The midfielder is only 22 years of age and has impressed Arsene Wenger enough for the manager to speak publicly about him – something he does not usually do with players he is considering making a bid for. The long serving Arsenal manager claimed to Telefoot: “We are following him. I like the intelligence of his play. He reminds me of Nasri. He has interesting qualities.”
Samir Nasri of course did well for Wenger at Arsenal before making a move to Manchester City and has ever since failed to live up to his once massive reputation. Now it seems that Wenger is considering spending some of his £70 million transfer budget on the young player and sees him as someone who could well help Arsenal push for trophies next season.
The manager also claimed that he has not received or made any contact with Paris Saint-Germain about their managerial vacancy and has pledged his future to Arsenal – for the time being at least.
