Arsenal in three-way fight to land Swiss international

Schar.jpgThe January transfer window won’t be so hunky dory for Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern as other clubs are scrapping for Basel’s star defender.

According to talkSPORT, Fabian Schar has gathered interest from not only North London with Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan also chasing his signature.

The Swiss international has attracted considerable interest from across Europe after impressing in this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Arsene Wenger is desperate to strengthen his defensive options after having just three first team centre backs to his name.

Also to add to the gaffer’s desperation, fans still believe they haven’t replaced former club captain Thomas Vermaelen after his move to Barcelona. This has put significant pressure on Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny to perform and remain fit.

However the Gunners face stiff competition as Dortmund and Inter are also weighing up an offer to bring Schar in when the window re-opens in January.

The Swiss champions are hoping to hold onto the 22-year-old but have valued the player at over £10 million.

He still has two years remaining on his contract with Basel having the option to extend it until 2016.
