There are a few surprised looks in the Football Transfer Tavern as The Guardian report that Arsenal are ready to test Liverpool’s resolve over unsettled striker Luis Suarez by making an improved £35 million offer.
It was thought that Arsenal were set to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain with the two clubs having reportedly agreed a fee which could bring the Argentine striker to the Emirates Stadium but the transfer has hit a delay with the forward’s future uncertain.
This has led Arsene Wenger to seek other top quality striking targets with Liverpool’s Suarez the main target. The Gunners made a £30 million bid last week that was rejected by the Anfield outfit but now they have returned with a higher offer. Although the Reds want around £40 million, this offer could make them reconsider as they look ahead to the new season without their Uruguayan star.
Suarez has made clear that he wants to leave Liverpool in order to play Champions League football – something Wenger can offer him at the Emirates. However it was understood that La Liga giants Real Madrid were his first option but with no sign of a confirmed bid from Spain he may settle for life in North London.
Where will Suarez end up this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
