According to the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, if Alexis Sanchez is sold this summer, the Gunners will seriously struggle next season…
It’s an argument that is tough to dispute, given that Sanchez has arguably been the most important Arsenal player in recent years, and with a lack of certainty surrounding his future – particularly with PSG reportedly keen – it is a concerning time to be an Arsenal fan.
Arsene Wenger, though, seemingly has a plan in place, and whilst he clearly doesn’t want to lose Alexis Sanchez, Don Balon report that he has a player in mind to replace the star power that the Chilean would take with him if he does leave. It is being reported by Don Balon that Arsenal have a long-held interest in Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, and should Sanchez leave the club this summer, it is said that the Gunners could look to go all out for the Frenchman.
It would be a strange move, given that Benzema and Sanchez play in different positions, but there is no doubting that Benzema is one of Europe’s best. He has been a mainstay in the Real Madrid first team over the last few years, even forcing Alvaro Morata to the sidelines last season following the Spaniard’s return to Los Blancos from Juventus.
Still, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern definitely like the sound of this deal, with many dreaming of an attacking duo made up of Benzema and Lacazette. Sure, the Frenchman, who is rated at £51m by Transfer Markt, would not directly replace Sanchez – but if utilised correctly, the deal could see Arsenal come out on top after all.
