Arsenal may still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season via the Premier League, especially after the weekend’s results, however, the Gunners will still have plenty of work ahead of them.
Unai Emery’s side have been rather inconsistent at times, which has cost them a number of points and the Spaniard is surely going to have to look at bringing in some quality to help improve them moving forward. And, it appears they have one man on their radar that could be perfect for the north London outfit.
What’s the News?
According to a report by O Jogo, Arsenal are thought to be interested in Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes.
It is claimed that the 24-year-old could be available for a fee of around €35million (£30.3m) because of an agreement that was made between Frederico Varandas and the player when he committed his future to the club last summer following the training pitch fracas with supporters and players.
However, the Fernandes is not thought to be actively pushing for that requirement to be met and could allow for Sporting to ask for as much as they want for him.
Fernandes has been nothing short of incredible for Sporting this season and it is hardly a surprise to hear a club like Arsenal be linked with him ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
The Portugal international could become an excellent replacement for the likes of Aaron Ramsey in the summer as he has the goals and creativity that the Gunners could thrive within the middle of the field at the Emirates Stadium.
Currently, the 24-year-old has 28 goals and 15 assists in his 48 appearances across all competitions so far and has continued to build upon his reputation as one of Europe’s quality playmakers.
If Fernandes is available for a fee of around £30m, then it could be a steal for Emery, although they will have to be wary as they would not have too many funds available in the bank to allow for other players in the summer. as they are believed to have a rather tight budget.
Although adding a player with the Portugal international’s quality would also be welcomed, it could be argued Arsenal have bigger problems in other areas of the field that need strengthening in the summer.
Arsenal fans, what do you think? Should the club go for Fernandes, or do you think they should focus their spending elsewhere? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
