Arsenal fans must be fuming with how things have been going recently and their defeat to Rennes in the Europa League will have not helped matters.
It is understandable that Unai Emery would need a few transfer windows to sort out the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger, with issues ranging from the defence to the midfield. The Gunners appear to find it difficult to keep the ball out of the back of their net this season, whilst they do not make as many chances as many would have expected they would be able to do so.
However, it appears the Spaniard could be about to try and bring someone to the Emirates Stadium in the summer that could seriously help with their creativity woes.
What’s the News?
According to a report by AS (via Sport Witness), Arsenal are understood to be interested in Porto’s Hector Herrera.
The Mexico international is available on a free transfer in the summer as his contract at the Portuguese giants expires, with Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid also allegedly thought to be keen on the midfielder, with the Spanish side believed to be his favoured destination.
Herrera could be the exact type of player that Arsenal need and one that could help Emery turn the Gunners into a truly attacking force with added creativity.
The Mexico international may not have had the most productive of seasons for Porto this year, having scored just four goals and yet to provide an assist in his 24 appearances in the top-flight, but he is a player who has the ability to pull the strings.
The 28-year-old would offer Emery a number of different options in the midfield with his versatility, as he can play in behind the striker, in front of the defence, or quite simply just in the middle of the park and is very comfortable in whatever position he is handed.
Herrera is a strong passer of the ball, can make a number of tackles and his ability to shoot from long-range will certainly appeal to Arsenal, especially with Aaron Ramsey set to join Juventus in the summer.
Partnering the Mexico international with Lucas Torriera could be something Emery decides to do if he joins and could potentially solve their midfield woes.
Arsenal fans, what do you make of Herrera? Do you think he would be a suitable player to replace the outgoing Ramsey? Let us know what you think by joining in the discussion with us below.
