There is no doubt that Unai Emery will need to improve his Arsenal squad in the summer. The Gunners have been largely impressive this season as they look to have one foot in the Europa League final, whilst a top-four finish in the Premier League is still on the cards.
However, there are still some major concerns that the Emirates Stadium outfit need to address as soon as possible, although one of the latest transfer rumours surrounding the club makes for strange reading.
What’s the News?
L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) are claiming Arsenal are considering whether to make an approach for Olympique de Lyonnais’ Moussa Dembele.
It is claimed that the Gunners have not done anything about their interest as of yet for the €50million (£42.5m) forward, although there are concerns that his price could rise in the summer if he impresses for France’s U21 side in Italy next month in the UEFA Under-21 Championship.
Dembele may have been in incredible form for Lyon this season and has clearly picked up from where he left off with Celtic last summer but is he what Arsenal really need in the upcoming transfer window?
The 22-year-old has hit 18 goals and provided four assists so far in his debut campaign for the Ligue 1 outfit, despite having to make an impact from the substitutes bench more often than not.
However, with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang already at the Emirates Stadium, it is not like the Gunners are desperate for someone who can find the back of the net on a regular basis, whilst it would be hard to see him in the starting XI often as well.
Arsenal have other areas of the squad that certainly require immediate improvements and if the reports that Emery’s side are to have a rather restricted transfer budget available to them, then the £42.5m attacker may not be the ideal player to target this summer.
Dembele is a hugely exciting player and it would be stupid to say he would not be back in the Premier League in the near future (following a spell at Fulham whilst in his youth), however, the Gunners should not be the ones to try and make it happen this summer.
Arsenal fans, what do you think? Would the club be better off at looking to improve other positions in the squad than splashing the cash on Dembele? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
