There is nothing we love more here in the Football Transfer Tavern than a battle between two Premier League sides when it comes to signing a top player.
Luckily for us, the Daily Express today brings us news of another one.
In news that has gotten both Liverpool and Arsenal fans off their seats and crowding around the bar here in the tavern, the publication claim that both sides could be interested in Greek international defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
The young defender is currently plying his trade for Schalke in the Bundesliga.
As our landlord reminds us, Brendan Rodgers has been a fan of the star for some time now, tracking him over the summer.
After the retirement of Jamie Carragher, the Reds manager was desperate to bring in another centre back. Despite landing Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori this summer, Rodgers is still monitoring the progress of the young star.
Arsene Wenger is also keen on the 21-year-old and could well be willing to splash some cash in January on the up and coming defender.
Having only spent a portion of his summer transfer kitty, Wenger has plenty of dosh left to spend. The general feeling amongst Gunners fans here in the tavern seems to be that £11 million for the Greek international is not asking too much.
Over a pie and mash, one of our punters notes that Wenger should take a leap of faith and stump up the cash for the player – before losing out to a rival club once again.
Would an £11m swoop for Papadopoulos represent money well invested for Wenger in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
