The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a few more signings this summer…
The signing of Alexandre Lacaztte has left most fans wanting more, and it appears as though Arsene Wenger has his eye on at least one more signing this summer.
According to Sport Bild, Arsenal are amongst the clubs keen on Schalke ace Leon Goretzka, with Man City also said to be keeping tabs on the midfielder. Significantly, however, his current side are said to be hoping to hold on to him this summer.
Arsenal’s midfield is certainly an area of interest for Arsene Wenger, with the Gunners lacking depth in the role. Granit Xhaka failed to set the world alight last season, whilst Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin are often inconsistent – leaving Wenger with few options in the role.
Goretzka played a pretty important role for Schalke last season, finishing the campaign with 30 Bundesliga appearances. Comfortable both going forward and tracking back, he is an excellent tackler and rarely takes his eye off the ball – having been a reliant hand for the German outfit in recent years.
Still, a move remains some way off, but Wenger’s interest appears concrete. Our landlord thinks that a deal will be hard to come by, but if Wenger really is desperate, the Frenchman often finds a way. Given that his contract expires next summer, this one is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
