The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their club to recruit a bit of offensive firepower this summer…
It seems as though they could potentially get it, too, in the form of French forward Alexandre Lacazette. According to the Sun, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been discussing a prospective move for the Frenchman this week, with the club seemingly keen to get a deal done quickly this summer. It is noted that a £50 million deal could be forthcoming, with the Gunners looking to rebound after a pretty poor season in the Premier League.
There is a clear need for offensive reinforcement at Arsenal this summer, with both Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck proving unreliable for the Gunners in the past. Giroud has typically fared far better from the bench over the last year, whilst Danny Welbeck injury problems have left the Gunners in the pub concerned.
Lacazette, meanwhile, has been performing consistently for current club Lyon in Ligue 1 this season, having picked up a remarkable 28 league goals over the past year. Quick, technical and prolific – there is no doubting that he would be a good option for Arsenal.
His signing would mark a change in tact for Arsene Wenger, with the Frenchman typically looking towards cheaper, younger options in the past – with Yaya Sanogo being a notable example. The signings of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in recent years have hinted that the Frenchman is growing increasingly keen to buy proven talent, though, and the signing of Lacazette would send a similar message.
With Arsenal finishing outside of the top four last season, a return to form will be vital next year – and our landlord thinks that Lacazette would really improve Arsenal’s fortunes.
