Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been gathering around the TV in the corner day-after-day waiting on news of more signings arriving at The Emirates this summer as the club look to rebuild after a poor season.
However, news making it’s way to the bar today is not of an arrival but a potential departure. According to reports from ESPN, Gunners goalkeeper David Ospina is in talks with Turkish side Fenerbahce over a deal which could see him end his three year association with The Emirates.
ESPN claim that talks are moving forward ‘smoothly,’ and that Ospina is happy to make the move – leaving the fans in the pub feeling pretty confident that a deal will go through.
One sticking point, however, is whether it will be a temporary deal or permanent, with the Turkish outfit looking to engineer a loan move whilst the north Londoners are keen on agreeing a sale.
Since arriving from Nice in 2014, the 76-cap Colombian international has played second fiddle to former Chelsea stopper Petr Cech, who arrived in the same window, and has made just shy of 50 appearances for Arsene Wenger, often used in the Champions League.
While he is a capable shot-stopper and a top notch deputy to have on the books, our landlord reckons his talent is wasted on the bench and that a move is the best for his career.
Gunners fans, we want to hear from you! Would you be sad to see Ospina go? Should he have been given the chance as No.1? Let us know in the comments below…
