Arsenal knocked back in chase for Italian international

florenzi.jpgArsenal fans are entering the Football Transfer Tavern ready for tonight’s 9pm World Cup kick off between Germany and Algeria.

But its domestic football that they are currently discussing after Metro reported that the Gunners have had an enquiry rejected for Roma’s Italian international midfielder Alessandro Florenzi.

The highly rated 23-year-old, who narrowly missed out on Cesare Prandelli’s Italian World Cup squad, impressed for the Serie A runners-up last season.

Roma are hoping to launch another successful attack on Serie A next season and have unsurprisingly rejected Arsenal’s approaches.

The Rome side believe that Florenzi is one of the club’s key players and hope to build the title challenging squad around him.

“It sums up Arsene Wenger’s summer already,” quips one Arsenal fan.

And he could well have a point with Wenger already reportedly missing out on a number of midfielders including Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez, Juventus’ Arturo Vidal and Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira.
