The Arsenal and the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were both entranced by Friday night’s clash between the two sides.
The game ended 3-3 and it involved a remarkable six minute burst where Liverpool went 2-0 up, only to go 3-2 behind.
But now the two sides are locked in another fierce battle – this time over a potential transfer target.
And it appears that Arsenal are leading the way, judging by reports coming from the Italian media.
According to Sky Italia, reported via The Sun, Arsenal are in pole position to sign Novara star Alessio Da Cruz in January.
Liverpool are also keen on the young Dutchman but the Gunners have the advantage, having made contact with his representatives and held initial discussions with the player in recent weeks.
The 20-year-old is considered to be one of the best talents in Serie B – the second tier of Italian football – after joining Novara last summer from FC Twente.
In his 18 appearances so far this season, the young winger has netted five goals and added a further two assists.
Inter Milan are also keen on bringing Da Cruz to the San Siro if a move to Arsenal or Liverpool fails to materialise.
Da Cruz is attracting plenty of attention ahead of this January window due to his displays on the wing for Novara.
He is renowned for his goal scoring ability as well as his creativity.
However, there is a big step up from Serie B to the Premier League so this is not a quick fix signing for either side.
