Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are often saying they’re concerned to see no plan in place for Arsene Wenger’s retirement and they’re discussing an intriguing idea over a round of pints to draw and end to the week.
Gunners legend Paul Merson believes Arsenal should appoint Manuel Pellegrini to replace Wenger, with it being confirmed that the Chilean boss will leave Manchester City this summer due to the appointment of Pep Guardiola.
Many have criticised City for their treatment towards Pellegrini, who’s still in with a chance of winning an unprecedented quadruple this season, and Merson told Play With A Legend that he feels the former Malaga boss has the required credentials to lead Arsenal.
‘The way he’s handled himself, I would say Pellegrini of Man City. He’s been a credit. I mean, he could go on to win all three trophies in England and he still got the sack.’
Our landlord agrees that Pellegrini would be a good fit to replace Wenger but can’t see it happening, as he feels Arsenal’s long-serving boss still has a few more years in him.
