Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up from their pints at the news from Metro who think the club could well be set to bid for Austrian international defender David Alaba.
The player is thought to be unhappy at Bayern Munich after spending most of the season playing at left back when he actually feels a central midfield role is where he excels and would suit him the best.
Arsene Wenger is prepared to offer the player a chance to show what he can do in the middle of the park and given what the club currently have on show there, Wenger does not really have much to lose.
The club are thought to be after a host of transfer targets and one so versatile would not be a bad thing for the club who of course need at least one defender and forward to add to their summer hit list.
As one of our punters points out, quite where incoming manager Pep Guardiola will chose to play the talented player is another thing altogether and should he be offered the chance to play in midfield a move would simply be a no go. Add to that the fact Bayern are currently champions of both Germany and Europe and its clear they are not a club you leave.
