The Daily Mail have a sensational claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern today as they note that Arsenal could well be set to pounce on Juan Mata.
The Chelsea Player of The Year has often been linked with a move away from the club since the arrival of manager Jose Mourinho and now it seems that Arsenal have joined the hunt.
Whilst the official party line from Chelsea is that Mata and indeed David Luiz are not for sale at any price, rumours and speculation are continuing at fever pitch and it seems that until the end of the transfer window that will roll on and on.
Arsene Wenger is watching the situation carefully and given he tried to sign the player back in 2011, it is not shock he is interested now.
Mata of course has been a star since his arrival from Valencia and eyebrows were raised when the suggestion of a cash plus one of Mata or Luiz may have been offered to David Moyes in exchange for Wayne Rooney.
For his part, 25-year-old Mata is happy at Chelsea and settled in London and bemused at reports linking him with the exit door.
As we all know by now, Wenger is determined to bring in some top talent to the club this summer and as we all know finally has the money to do it.
Surely this is one of the most crazy rumours of the window so far? Let us know your thoughts below.
