Our landlord’s having to separate Arsenal and Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, with both sets of supporters claiming their club will sign Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio this summer.
They’ve been reading the latest reports from Spanish publication Don Balon, which claim the Premier League duo are both keen on the 21-year-old prodigy, alongside Serie A champions Juventus and fellow La Liga outfit Sevilla.
It’s suggested Real Madrid will need to sell players to sign new recruits this summer and hinted that Asensio could end up moving on in search of more first-team football.
Last month, The Daily Star rated Asensio at £40million – which may seem a little steep considering he’s made just six starts in La Liga this season, albeit producing an impressive return of three goals.
But such was Asensio’s form during loan spells with Mallorca and Espanyol that he’s already been capped twice by Spain at senior level and is rated is one of the brightest prospects in the country.
Arsenal and Liverpool are both in the race for a top four finish this season and have crucial fixtures coming up this weekend. The Reds face seventh-placed local rivals Everton, whilst Arsenal host third-placed Manchester City.
