There are raised eyebrows here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool face competition to land Swansea City keeper Michael Vorm from none other than Barcelona according to the Daily Star.
The Spanish giants are of course looking to life without Victor Valdes and have begun to cast an eye around for other goalkeeping options. The Catalan club are now set to make a play for the Dutchman who has been nothing short of inspirational during his time at Swansea leading them to a Capital One Cup trophy and also to the dizzy heights of ninth in the Premier League.
Whilst Michael Laudrup may feel that he can convince the stopper to stay with the club should Liverpool or Arsenal come calling, keeping him should Barcelona come knocking is a different prospect altogether and one that no one would really think is achievable.
Arsenal can take comfort in the fact that this signifies that the Camp Nou-based side have finally given up on convincing Valdes to stay and will sell him in the summer meaning that the goalkeeping merry go round will hot up now with Pepe Reina, Victor Valdes and Michel Vorm all in the mix, not to mention the uncertainty over Thibaut Courtois’ part in any deal involving Radamel Falcao.
Are Barca really interested in prizing Vorm away from the Liberty Stadium? Rate this rumour below.
