The Football Transfer Tavern is intrigued when Ben Jefferson from The Express arrives at the bar to explain that Barcelona defender Martin Montoya could be on the move with a possible destination being the Premier League.
His agent has left the door open for his client to make a move to Arsenal or Liverpool with a new contract at Barcelona seemingly far from agreed.
Montoya was linked to Arsenal and Liverpool during the recently closed transfer window, only to indicate that he was likely to sign a new contract at the Camp Nou.
But now according to reports in France, Italy and Spain, a free transfer at the end of the season remains a possibility.
According to Montoya’s agent Jose Maria Orobitg, the 22-year-old defender remains concerned that Daniel Alves is blocking his path to the first team at Barcelona and he could therefore be open to a move.
Orobitg said: “For the moment he is under contract with FC Barcelona until the end of the season. However, the contract extension has still not arrived.
“We have talked but there is no certainty that Martin Montoya would hold down a first-team spot, because right now Daniel Alves closes the door. The transfer window is closed, but I can tell you that the contract extension may not be successful.”
Can either Arsenal or Liverpool land the highly rated defender in the near future? Let us know your thoughts below.
