Arsenal & Liverpool in ‘Denial’ Over Rekindled Barca Interest

Barcelona have already decided what to do with their new-found riches: buy even more world-beaters.

After 5 years of paying to carry the UNICEF logo on their shirt, the Catalan giants have been forced to accept sponsorship from the Qatar Foundation after posting debts totalling £369.5m. The deal will see the club receive sponsorship of £25m per year for a five year term, making them the highest earners in terms of sponsorship in the world, and freeing up funds for investing in their already talent-laden squad.

Barcelona have now proclaimed themselves “the undisputed brand leader in world football”.

Unsurprisingly, the rumour mill concerning just what they plan to do with their new-found wealth is already up and running, and the Daily Mirror has taken the lead with reports of summer swoops for Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres.

The Arsenal playmaker is no surprise, really; we all know Pep Guardiola wanted to sign him last summer, we know Arsene Wenger persuaded his skipper to stay, but we know that Barca will bid again, and Fabregas will probably go next time.

Torres, however, is much more interesting. Again, he was linked with a move over the summer, only for him also to pledge his future to Liverpool. However, after a faltering start to the campaign, the suggestion is that Torres will issue Roy Hodgson with an ultimatum to buy big in January and turn the club back into title challengers, or he will seek a move elsewhere next summer.

The Mirror has mooted Real Madrid as a potential destination for the former Athletico Madrid man, which is about as likely to happen as Carlos Tevez returning to Manchester United. No, if Torres does return to Spain, it will be to Barcelona, to link up with international strike partner, David Villa.

So, that’s a potential Barca team for next season including Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Messi, Villa and Torres.

That amount of talent should be illegal, really; but we still all want to see it play!
