Yet another blow has been handed out to a couple of our Premier League clubs here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro note Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema is set to sign a new deal with the club.
Not only had Arsenal been tracking the Frenchman, who netted 22 goals for Carlo Ancelotti’s side last season, but Liverpool were also considering a £40 million swoop for Benzema as part of their summer recruitment drive after losing Luis Suarez.
As one of our punters notes over a pint, we had originally thought the Karim Benzema’s Bernabeu future looked bleak but after a decent first stage in the World Cup, it seems Ancelotti has been convinced over Benzema to the degree that he is willing to see the player tied down at the club until 2019.
This would of course put to bed rumours of a Premier League move and we think that both the Reds and Arsenal need to seriously get their fingers out in order to find a new option.
Punters. Do you think that Benzema is right to stay at Real Madrid and potentially play second fiddle to a host of other stars? Let us know your thoughts below.
