Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have all been eagerly awaiting an update on the future of Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, and one has finally arrived courtesy of Metro.
It is not the news all had been hoping for however, with the Bundesliga giants simply reiterating their desire to keep hold of the German international, despite keen interest in his signature from the Premier League trio.
‘[We will] definitely try to keep him long term,’ Borussia’s sporting director Michael Zorc told Sport1.
‘Marco is not only a hugely important player for us because of his athletic performance, but also in his role as a poster boy.
‘He is Dortmund-born and a figurehead for this club.’
Zorc’s words come shortly after Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke stated the club’s intention to tie Reus down to a long-term deal.
‘We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave,’ he told Kicker. ‘Marco will play with us next season.
‘There is no possibility that he will play elsewhere. We will try to tie him to our club for longer and we are proceeding with peace of mind that he will renew his deal.’
