There are some interesting reports in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
The Daily Star suggest that Newcastle United star Yohan Cabaye has hinted he may leave St. James’ Park in the summer as he seeks Champions League football.
The 27-year-old French international has been in fine form of late as the Magpies enjoyed three consecutive victories.
These impressive displays are likely to attract further attention from the Premier League and the rest of Europe.
Cabaye was strongly linked with a summer switch to Arsenal and even reportedly went on strike as he tried to force a move to the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners’ offer of £10 million was rejected by the Magpies and instead he healed the rift with Newcastle fans for the new campaign.
That near miss has made him eager to consider his options again at the end of the season with the midfielder admitting that the lure of playing in the Champions League would be hard to resist.
“I miss the Champions League. I’ll finish this season with Newcastle and concentrate on the coming months and then we’ll see,” he told RTL.
The latest reports in the bar have indicated that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is planning to challenge Arsenal for the former Lille man although Newcastle won’t let him leave for less than £20 million.
Other possible transfer destinations for Cabaye, who is under contract until 2016 at St. James’ Park, include Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco who have both held long-term interest in the midfield man.
