The Football Transfer Tavern is packed today as the weekly darts tournament takes places in the bar.
One of the competitors is Colin Harvey from the Daily Star who brings with him some interesting suggestions about a possible transfer battle in the offing.
Harvey steps off the oche to claim that Arsenal and Liverpool will go head to head to try and sign Anderlecht centre back Cheikhou Kouyaté, according to the player’s agent.
He is a player that we have previously heard in the tavern after the 24-year-old expressed his desire to play in the Premier League with interest mounting from several English clubs.
Now his agent Saffet Balkan has reportedly confirmed that representatives from the two Premier League rivals have been in touch to discuss a potential January transfer for the highly-regarded defender.
Balkan said: “I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate.
“Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon.”
It was thought that Arsene Wenger was focused on adding to his attack during the January transfer window but today’s speculation has indicated that the Senegal star could emerge on the agenda for the Gunners.
The centre-back was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium back in 2012 after his impressive performances at the Olympics but a work permit was out of the question. However circumstances have now changed after Kouyate was granted a Belgian passport making it fair easy for Wenger to secure his man.
