The Football Transfer Tavern is packed this evening ahead of Arsenal’s final group match against Napoli but before the match starts talk has turned to the latest transfer speculation that has arrived in the bar.
The news comes from The Express who suggest that Arsenal will increase their interest in young Hamburg midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu by making an offer next month as they to beat Liverpool to the signing.
Arsene Wenger has been following the Turkish star in recent times and could be ready to move for the 19-year-old, who had scored four goals in 15 games this term, when the transfer window opens next month.
The long serving Gunners boss is likely to face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool for his signature, with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers a big fan of the attacking midfielder.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool have had scouts watching him in recent weeks and his agent, Bektas Demirtas, has revealed he expects a bid from the Gunners in the near future.
Demirtas told German newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost: “We know of Arsenal’s interest.
“I think they will make a concrete move in December or January.”
However, in a possible blow to Arsenal’s hopes, Demirtas added that his client is happy in Germany.
He added: “Hakan and Hamburg has been a success story – our wish is that he stays here and continues to evolve.”
The player though is on record as saying he dreams of a move abroad at some point, with England a possible destination.
He told Turkish media outlet DHA: “My goal is to play at Hamburg and eventually join a club in England or Spain in the future.”
