Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were pleased to find their side back to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-0 victory against Everton- and the Man of the Match from that fixture has been a big talking point at the bar.
The London Evening Standard is reporting that Alex Iwobi, who scored his first senior goal at the weekend, will be handed a new contract that will give the Nigerian international a significant rise on his current wages.
19-year-old Iwobi has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the first-team this season, with his highlights including his goal at Goodison Park and an impressive performance against Barcelona last week.
With the player in-line for his third senior international appearance this Friday, when Nigeria host Egypt in an African Cup of Nations qualifier, it’s further evidence of the maturity the teenager has shown.
Iwobi only signed a new deal last October but his wages are believed to be under £1k-a-week and a new deal will see that figure rise to around £10k-a-week.
Our landlord feels this reward is well deserved and believes Iwobi will be a crucial member of Arsenal’s Premier League run-in.
