There are more than a couple of bemused faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed by the Daily Star that Arsenal made a late bid for Andy Carroll who joined West Ham United permanently yesterday.
The North London club have been linked to a whole host of players over the last couple of months and Arsene Wenger has made it clear that a top striker is what he wants this summer most of all.
Whilst the majority of fans may well have been expecting Gonzalo Higuain or even Stevan Jovetic, to hear that the club were willing to chase Andy Carroll is a shock to say the least.
As one punter quips, if Carroll was on a free, that would be just about acceptable yet to hear that the Gunners were willing to pay£16 million for the player not to mention a staggering £100,000 per week in wages, the story has certainly caused controversy in the tavern. Wenger had claimed about the forward before: “He has a kind of presence. He has something special and he’s efficient.
“I have been impressed by him. He has charisma, confidence and he is intelligent on the ball.”
Were Arsenal ever interested in Carroll or is this the drunkest rumour of the summer so far? Rate this rumour below.
