Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been left shocked that Arsene Wenger plans to get the chequebook out for the second transfer window in a row.
That happening is as rare as resident punter Alan The Gooner getting the first round in on a Friday night and definitely something to take note of.
According to the Daily Mail, Wenger has highlighted Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender as the key target for the summer.
Lars, brother of Dortmund midfielder Sven, is well known for his tireless worth ethic and stamina – something Arsenal could really do with.
The Gunners have struggled in recent times to successfully replace the void left by Cesc Fabregas who left for Barcelona, but it now seems that Wenger has found his man.
It looks a strong possibility that Arsenal could lure the German to the Emirates Stadium with Champions League football all but secured for yet another season.
He’d also be joining a strong German contingent with Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker already at the club.
The only downfall is that Lars signed a contract extension less than a year ago meaning that he has a contract at the Bay Arena until 2019.
But Wenger has had years of saving cash and should have enough cash to tempt the German international to England.
What do you reckon Arsenal fans? Is he the man that can finally fill the void left by Cesc Fabregas? Let us know your thoughts below.
