Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have spent the last few weeks gloating over how their side is going to sign in-demand German centre half Shkodran Mustafi; but now it looks like Arsene Wenger has his sights on another defender.
For the last few weeks, Shkodran Mustafi has been at the top of Arsenal’s shopping list, with the German defender touted as the man to solve Arsenal’s defensive crisis coming into the new season.
However, with just two weeks until the transfer window slams shut, there has been very little progress on any detail between Arsenal and Mustafi’s club Valencia; and Arsene Wenger is running out of time.
After weeks of negotiations without success, it appears that Wenger is now taking matters into his own hands, with the Arsenal boss reportedly looking at alternative defensive targets.
In a report by ESPN, Arsenal have reportedly been in contact with Fenerbache over the availability of star defender Simon Kjaer.
The 27 year old defender stands at a towering 6ft2, and has won a number of player of the year awards during his career thus far.
Whilst Fenerbache are reportedly keen to hold on to Kjaer, ESPN add that no formal offer has been made; so they could yet be tempted to sell.
Our landlord reckons that with the Mustafi deal seemingly dead in the water, Kjaer is the next best option for Arsene Wenger with time running out for the Arsenal boss.
Arsenal fans – what do you think? Should Wenger hold out for Mustafi, or should he take his business elsewhere?
