It’s well known in the Football Transfer Tavern that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is seeking a new goalkeeper during the summer as looks to rebuild his squad after another trophyless season at the Emirates Stadium.
The next keeper linked with a move to the North London club is Hamburg keeper Rene Adler with Mirror Football reporting that Wenger has eyed the 28-year-old as a solid choice on his shortlist.
The paper reports that Wenger’s scouts have been monitoring the German international’s progress as they prepare to bring in a new keeper in the post-season after being priced out of moves for Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet and Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic.
The two Premier League keepers have been on Arsenal’s radar after impressing for their sides this term but with price tags of around £15 million, Wenger has decided to look abroad to find value instead. Adler will be available at a cut price fee of around £5 million and at 6 ft 3 in stopper will certainly add a commanding presence to the Gunners back line.
Adler is viewed in the Jens Lehmann mould of having a strong character – something required by Wenger, and he has performed well between the sticks with the Bundesliga club.
Will Rene Adler be the Gunners’ number one for 2013/14? Rate this rumour below.
