Arsenal make initial approach over potential Benatia transfer - Arsenal

Arsenal managed to secure victory in the FA Cup against Blackpool yesterday as two goals from Joe Willock and an Alex Iwobi strike fired them into the next round.

The Gunners will be hoping that they can carry their momentum with them into their next Premier League fixture, as they’ve struggled to ensure consistency in recent times.

However, it looks as if Unai Emery is eyeing a possible addition, as according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Metro), Arsenal have made an initial approach to Juventus over the potential transfer of Medhi Benatia.

Arsenal are believed to have made an initial approach to Juventus over the potential transfer of Medhi Benatia.

Indeed, it remains to be seen if Juventus will part with the 58-cap Moroccan international, though he is no longer first choice under manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Although, Bundesliga side Schalke are also though to be interested in a move for the central defender, so the Gunners may have to fend off their advances.

THE VERDICT:

Arsenal will be desperate to secure a central defender as their performances at the heart of the defence in recent times have been woeful. Indeed, conceding five goals against Liverpool is a prime example of their lack of quality.

Medhi Benatia is a very experienced central defender who could easily slot right in at the heart of the defence, though the Gunners could arguably do better than the Moroccan, as he isn’t getting any younger.
