There are some disappointed looking faces in the Football Transfer Tavern after talkSPORT suggested that Spanish giants Real Madrid are planning to move for Manchester United and Arsenal midfield target Ilkay Gundogan.
Both Arsene Wenger and David Moyes have been linked with the 22-year-old Borussia Dortmund man who was oh so impressive in the German side’s memorable run to the Champions League final last season.
Arsenal are thought to be favourites in England with Wenger eyeing up the powerful central midfield man as a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta but Moyes knows he needs to add to his Red Devils midfield contingent in the near future.
But with suitors from Spain and Bayern Munich in Germany, both of the interested English clubs could face a real fight to land the former Nuremberg man.
However, Dortmund have already made clear that they will not be selling any other top players this summer after losing youngster Mario Gotze to Munich. That means that any club looking to recruit Gundogan from the Bundesliga runners-up will have to be patient and wait until next summer. According to our resident German expert, it will be worth the wait.
