Receiving downcast glances from Arsenal and Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern, talkSPORT claim Fulham are preparing a new contract for standout Cottagers starlet Patrick Roberts in order to ward off the duo.
Whenever a player makes his first team debut at such a young age, England’s elite clubs always sit up and take note.
With teenage Roberts having even already appeared in the Premier League under the ill-fated reign of Felix Magath last term, he has been one of the most highly-rated prospects at Craven Cottage in years.
Starting only one fixture in the Championship this season, Roberts has mainly been deployed from the bench and with Kit Symons still treating the 18-year-old’s transition into regular first team football with care, the West London club are now ready to ward off interest from the aforementioned duo, not to mention Liverpool.
“Pat will be offered a new contract. We will look to tie up our best young players. He’s a fantastic prospect,” Symons said.
The Cottagers boss continued “He’s a sensible lad. I’d be a bit worried if he didn’t play but he understands the situation and the predicament of the club.”
Registering a 1-1 draw away at Charlton Athletic last night, there is currently eight points separating themselves and 22nd-placed Millwall with five games left to play for Symons’ men.
