Marca have a rather depressing claim for Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They claim that Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas is set to snub a move to the Premier League.
The Real Madrid legend had been linked with a move away from the club after losing his number one shirt to Diego Lopez.
Now it seems that after manager Carlo Ancelotti came into the club and allowed the captain to play in the cup competitions, he is willing to stay and see out his contract.
This is of course bad news for the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, who according to The Express were both keen on bringing Casillas to England.
Arsenal were particularly keen on the Spanish international and were heavily linked with a move in the winter, and had considered returning once the summer transfer window opened.
However, Casillas admitted: “I’d love to be able to keep playing for Real Madrid until I’m 40, but a time will come when that’s not possible. I’ll consider my future at Real when my contract expires.”
That, as our landlord tells us over pouring a couple of perfect pints, is not exactly an out and out denial of a move – and there may well be hope yet for Arsenal.
Do the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City even need goalkeeping reinforcements? We think not. Let us know your thoughts below.
