It could well turn into a real Super Sunday here in the Football Transfer Tavern for two of the Premier League’s giants as Metro claim that Arsenal and Manchester City have a common interest.
The two clubs are thought to be the lead contenders for Borussia Dortmund player Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish forward was thought to be on his way to Bayern Munich, but given Pep Guardiola is no longer keen on him, Lewandowski is considering alternatives.
A move in January is preferable for Jurgen Klopp and BVB and as one of our punters quips, at least they will then get some money for the forward. Allowing him to leave for Bavarian giants Bayern Munich is not an option – especially after the Mario Gotze saga.
Should a bid from either Arsenal or City come in, Lewandowski would seriously consider making the switch this winter. He opened the door to a move to the Premier League by stating: “I don’t think it is a real big surprise that I have expressed a desire to play in England at some point in my career.
“The Premier League is one of the best and most exciting in the world because it is attractive for most of the world’s top players.”
Another manager who is keen on the forward is Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who as our punters note, does not have the luxury of a Robin van Persie or Olivier Giroud, let alone a Sergio Aguero.
City have plenty of firepower up top, yet both Chelsea and Arsenal could well do with another forward. The interest in Lewandowski is another sign by Arsene Wenger that the Gunners have the intent to attract world class players and want to improve.
What is the likelihood of Lewandowski moving to Arsenal, City or Chelsea this winter?
