There is some good news for Arsenal and Manchester City fans today in the Football Transfer Tavern, as the Daily Star claim that Victor Valdes is set on leaving Barcelona.
As our landlord notes, there has been some uncertainty over the future of the keeper after Barcelona elected to keep him at the Camp Nou and allow him to run down his contract – and whispers of him being convinced to stay and pen a new deal were growing.
As were the ones about Barcelona netting Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas, so it goes to show you can’t believe everything you read!
Over a game of pool, we pour over the latest quotes from the keeper, who spoke after the last gasp win against Sevilla and noted: “Always, I am a professional.
“I do not need to add more quotes
“I have spoken with the club without problems but my choice has not changed – I am happy for this season and after, I leave.”
This news is likely to alert both Arsene Wenger and also City boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Wenger as we all know had been in the hunt for a keeper all summer and would reportedly be keen to land Valdes – especially as he will be on a free and a lot will depend on the form of loan signing Emiliano Viviano.
This is not to mention the fact that most other keepers have turned him down. City are also considering bringing in another stopper, and whilst Manuel Pellegrini has more faith in Joe Hart than former manager Robert Mancini, he would be keen to talk with Valdes – who is known to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
With Valdes not changing his tact, who will snap him up for the 2014/15 season? Let us know your thoughts below.
