A few of the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern were lucky enough to attend the international match at Craven Cottage between Italy and Nigeria last night.
One of the Italian stars who was on show in West London was Alessio Cerci, who has netted eight goals in his 12 games for Torino this season.
Now reports have emerged in the tavern that the winger turned striker was being watched by a host of Premier League sides last night.
The suggestions come from talkSPORT who report that Manchester United and Arsenal were two of the club’s watching the 26-year-old last night.
Cerci, who is valued at £12.5 million, spent several seasons at Roma before signing for Fiorentina in 2010. Two years in Florence were followed by a move to his current club where he has won international recognition for his fine performances.
However, Torino president Urbano Cairo has already denied the rumours and has insisted that he is not concerned about seeing Cerci depart when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.
“I haven’t received any calls from England for Cerci, even if I read in the newspapers that there is interest from British clubs,” Cairo stated.
“As far as I am concerned, there’s no truth to it. Will he stay at Torino in January? Of course!”
Cerci started on the bench against their fellow World Cup qualifiers as the two sides played out an impressive 2-2 draw, in which Shola Ameobi scored for Nigeria…I know, unbelievable isn’t it!
