It’s been a quiet Monday in the Football Transfer Tavern until Harry Pratt from the Daily Star brings reports of a revived transfer battle into the Football Transfer Tavern.
Pratt suggests that the fight for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke could be back on as Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham all track the Belgian international powerhouse.
The Aston Villa frontman was strongly linked with a move away from the West Midlands club in the summer after submitting a transfer request but instead of leaving Villa Park he penned a new lucrative four-year contract to remain with Paul Lambert’s club.
Despite his commitment to Villa, the interest from the top of the Premier League hasn’t faded in the 22-year-old with a number of possible January bids in the pipeline.
As one punter points out, Villa have very little reason to sell their star striker and with no release clause in his contract, they are under no pressure to do so.
However that is unlikely to put off potential suitors after the forward hit 23 goals in his debut season in England and the striker could try again to force a transfer away.
United boss David Moyes is understood to have put the striker high on his list of priorities while Arsenal and Spurs are all preparing to fight for the Belgian ace, who is valued at around £25 million.
Arsene Wenger wants to bolster his strikeforce during the winter and a move for Benteke could help bring the Premier League title to the Emirates Stadium.
Is this merely speculation? Will Benteke honour his contract for now and move on in the summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
