Manchester United and Arsenal supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are seemingly set for disappointment in their chase for Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil.
Sky Sports reports that he will reject a move to the Premier League to remain at the Bernabeu this summer.
Rumours of an exit have been rife in the tavern since the weekend when the 24-year-old German international appeared to storm down the tunnel after he was substituted during Real’s narrow 1-0 success over Granada.
But he has now played down the speculation of a possible move to the Premier League, saying: “I have a contract until 2016, I feel very good here and get on well with my team-mates.
“For me it’s an honour to play here with this team.
“There has been a lot written in the press, they have spoken of interesting options but I have a contract and I am staying at Real Madrid.”
Ozil’s position at the Bernabeu club has been put under increased threat following the summer arrival of Spanish starlet Isco and Real’s expected purchase of Gareth Bale could push him further down the pecking order in new coach Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Manchester United boss David Moyes and Arsenal’s Arsene Weneger have reportedly been keeping track of his situation with a possible move for the former Werder Breman player in the pipeline.
However, Ozil insists that he has confidence in his new manager to give him sufficient chances in the Real first team.
“I have the confidence of the coach and there is a series of objectives that we want to achieve in which everyone has their own role to play. This is one of the reasons I want to stay,” he added.
Does this spell an end to the pursuit for Ozil? Who should the two clubs consider instead? Let us know your thoughts below.
