Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan has emerged as one of our favourites player in the Football Transfer Tavern over the last season and we would throughly love to him to be gracing the Premier League in the near future.
However Metro reveal that he is set to remain with the Bundesliga club who are confident of getting the reported Arsenal and Manchester United to pen a new contract at the Westfalenstadion.
Gundogan, 22, was a key member of the Dortmund team that successfully reached the Champions League Final last season and is now regarded as one of the most sought after midfield talents in Europe, and Dortmund will be determined to keep hold of the German international.
Now Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed that he believes that the classy midfielder will agree a new deal with Jurgen Klopp’s side during the current season.
“I really think he will stay with us after 2015,” he said.
“This is the right club for him at this stage of his career.”
Gundogan’s current contract with the club expires at the end of next season and that has led to suggestions he could be on move, but negotiations are understood to have started over a possible extension.
Neither Arsenal or United have made any formal enquries for the German star despite their reported interest and it appears now that Dortmund will be given more time to negotiate with the player following the closure of the summer transfer window next week.
