Arsenal may be priced out of midfielder deal this summer – report

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling good about their side’s summer business so far…

After a poor campaign last time out, the Gunners had some serious improvements to make over the summer, and they did exactly that. The signing of Alexandre Lacazette left the fans in the Transfer Tavern feeling very excited indeed, whilst Sead Kolasinac’s performances have left supporters drooling.

Add a couple of good early results – as they have – and things are looking good for Arsenal.

However, problems are beginning to arise for the Gunners – and they surround Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Englishman’s contract expires next summer, and he has yet to sign a new deal.

Unfortunately, the two parties don’t look close to finding an arrangement that suits both groups, as according to Goal, the Ox is demanding a whopping £150,000-per-week to sign a new deal – a fee that Arsenal are said to be hesitant to pay.

Currently reportedly paid £65,000-per-week, he is demanding an increase of nearly £100,000-per-week, and Arsenal are, unsurprisingly, unwilling to make such an improvement

It’s a shame that it has come to this, as the midfielder has really come of age over the last 18 months or so, but with improved performances come raised demands, and clearly the Ox thinks that he deserves more.

Landlord’s Verdict

There is no doubting that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain deserves a raise, but these demands are a bit too extortionate.

He isn’t guaranteed to be a starter at the Emirates, and that salary would place him amongst some of the Premier League’s highest earners.

It will hurt to let him go, but the Gunners may have little choice but to move him on.
